Barcelona react to Wojciech Szczęsny’s masterclass vs Benfica | OneFootball

The brass at La Liga giants Barcelona are preparing a contract renewal offer to goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny.

This, of course, comes fresh off a night to remember for the Pole on the continent.

Barcelona marked their return to action on Wednesday, making the trip to Portugal for a Champions League showdown with Benfica.

When all was said and done, despite being reduced to 10 men inside the opening 25 minutes, the Blaugrana emerged triumphant, by two goals to one.

And nothing short of brilliant en route to as much, as alluded to above, was Wojciech Szczęsny.

Afforded his latest start in Lisbon, Szczęsny responded by conjuring up eight saves, to hold a relentless Benfica attack at bay through the full-time whistle.

And if the latest word stemming from the media is anything to go by, then such endeavours on the part of the former Arsenal man have evidently not gone unappreciated behind the scenes in Catalunya’s capital.

This comes amid confirmation on the part of journalist Luis Rojo of Marca that:

‘Barcelona will offer Szczesny a one-year contract renewal.’

As much would mean the experienced goalkeeper staying put through next season, after initially only penning terms with Barcelona until the summer.
