Barcelona & Real Madrid learn identity of referee for El Clásico | OneFootball

The identity of the referee set to be placed in charge of this weekend’s first Clásico of the campaign has on Monday been revealed.

The official set to be tasked with taking charge of Spanish football’s biggest fixture? José María Sánchez Martínez.

As per a report on the part of El Chiringuito TV:

‘The Clásico will be refereed by José María Sánchez Martínez. The Murcian will be in charge of directing Real Madrid – Barca. Juanfe Sanz Perez confirms the final decision of the Technical Committee of Referees.’

The announcement of Sánchez Martínez’s appointment to this weekend’s Santiago Bernabéu showdown has since caused quite the stir, amongst the fanbases of Barcelona and Real Madrid alike.

This comes amid accusations on the part of the former in particular of the official having displayed bias towards their side on more than one occasion in the recent past.

It now remains to be seen whether or not this proves to be the case on Saturday night, too…
