Only in this starting phase of the 2024-25 season, FC Barcelona have made it quite clear that they are once again ready to compete with the biggest teams in Europe for the top prizes.

The Catalans are the clear leaders in La Liga, with a six-point gap over Real Madrid, and after an initial hiccup against Monaco, have also won their last two matches in the UEFA Champions League.

The veteran forward, Robert Lewandowski, has been instrumental in these achievements, with his goals playing a crucial role in the team’s success. The Polish striker has already scored 17 goals in 14 appearances, with 14 of them coming in La Liga, including his brace against Real Madrid.

As MARCA has noted, with these league goals, Lewandowski is now the leader in the race for the Golden Boot this season.

After his brace against Real Madrid, the Pole has overtaken Alex Tamm from Kalju playing in Estonia, and Klettskard from Klaksvik playing in the Faroe Islands. Both these players will see their seasons end in 2024, but were previously ahead of Lewandowski in the Golden Boot standings.

But the main competition for this prestigious prize will come from the big European leagues, but here too, the Pole has an advantage. With his 14 league goals, he stands higher than Erling Haaland (who has 11 goals in the Premier League) Marmoush and Harry Kane (with 9 goals each in Bundesliga), Retegui (10 goals in Serie A), and Barcola (7 goals in Ligue 1).

If he maintains this lead and actually ends up winning the award, this will be the third in Lewandowski’s career. He won the first two for his performances with Bayern Munich, although the second was awarded to him after he had already moved to Barcelona.

Thus, this could be the first Golden Boot that he wins with Barcelona, and he can become the first player to win this award for the Blaugranes since Lionel Messi.
