La Liga giants Barcelona are imminently set to receive another significant payout on the part of FIFA, as part of the organisation’s injury compensation programme.

This comes owing to the fitness setback suffered by Barca star Ronald Araújo during the summer.

Defender Araújo was for his part condemned to a long-term spell on the sidelines back in early-July.

This came owing to a serious hamstring injury, suffered whilst lining out for his native Uruguay during the latest edition of the Copa América.

The 25-year-old has remained on the sidelines ever since, sitting out Barcelona’s stellar opening to the campaign under new boss Hansi Flick.

The expectation, though, is that Araújo will finally mark his return to the pitch at some point in December.

And, at this point, the brass at the Camp Nou will be entitled to a significant cash sum on the part of the aforementioned FIFA.

As per a report from Mundo Deportivo, ‘FIFA’s coverage is based on providing compensation based on the player’s fixed salary, in the event that footballers who play in an international tournament or who are with their national teams extend their time of absence “for more than 28 consecutive days, as a result of bodily injury caused by an accident during the operational time of the matches.”‘

After receiving in excess of €6 million as compensation for Gavi’s ACL injury suffered whilst lining out for Spain, Barca are now in line for another cash injection, on this occasion just shy of €3 million.
