The Bavarian giants were up and running early doors in just the second minute when German wunderkind Jamal Musiala tucked home from close range after Harry Kane turned provider amidst slick one-two football to set Bayern off.

Despite the early goal, Mainz hardly deflated against their more illustrious opponents while pushing to hit Bayern on the break as Kompany’s troops continued to control proceedings.

Musiala would pop up again, this time heading home from close range 38th minute after Robin Zentner did well to parry Kane’s initial effort, putting the match comfortably to bed.

Nationalelf colleague Leroy Sané added a third in the first minute of stoppage time to extend Bayern’s advantage further still with a cool finish past a helpless Zentner.

It would be Musiala once more to make it four-to-the-good three minutes later after he pounced on a loose ball after Dominik Kohr’s attempted block bounced off Zentner and fell kindly at his feet inside the six-yard box for a simple tap-in.

His trio of goals on the night would go down as a career first for the gifted midfielder, while also hitting the 50 career goals mark in the process.

Both Musiala and Kane would clock out early after Kompany replaced the pair at half-time with Thomas Müller Mathys Tel with a view of looking ahead to Union Berlin’s visit to the Allianz Arena at the weekend, but Bayern hardly slowed down despite the changes.

Germany youth international starlet Arijon Ibrahimović would also log a handful of unexpected minutes tonight after Eric Dier was taken off with a knock 13 minutes remaining.

Bayern ultimately would be unable to add a fifth on the night, with Kompany and co. looking ahead to Saturday in a bid to pull ahead of title rivals RB Leipzig.
