Jonathan Tah is set to spark a major transfer war this summer as he nears a departure from Bayer Leverkusen when his contract expires on June 30.

The German international has emerged as a top target for FC Barcelona, with the club having been working on a deal for him since last year.

However, there have been delays in making the agreement with the 29-year-old defender formal due to Financial Fair Play concerns, which other clubs are trying to take advantage of.

Earlier this week, reports emerged that clubs like Liverpool and Newcastle United had entered the race for the Bundesliga ace.

Bayern Munich pressing for Tah

Now, one of Tah’s long-term suitors, Bayern Munich are pressing hard to sign him up on a free transfer.

Indeed, according to journalist Florian Plettenberg, the newly-crowned Bundesliga champions have entered into concrete negotiations with the defender and his representatives.

This is despite the fact that Tah has an agreement in principle with Barcelona, although Fair Play problems have put the La Liga leaders in a state of wait-and-watch.

Bayern Munich are now trying to capitalise on this and are pressing to secure an agreement with Tah and his camp.

The report states that the Bavarians’ manager Vincent Kompany and directors Max Eberl and Christoph Freund are all pushing for the deal as they see the Leverkusen star as their main target to reinforce the defence.

Tah, for his part, is believed to give top priority to Barcelona but is starting to get restless with the lack of concrete moves on the Catalans’ part.

As such, if the Blaugrana intend to follow through and sign Tah, they must act swiftly or risk losing the centre-half with Bayern Munich pushing and Real Madrid also lurking in the background.
