After edging past Liverpool in a penalty shootout at Anfield on Tuesday night, Paris Saint-Germain now turn their attention to another Premier League opponent, Aston Villa, with a spot in the semifinals on the line.
PSG had to battle to get past Liverpool, while Aston Villa cruised through their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 matchup against Club Brugge, winning 6-1 on aggregate.
The English side took the first leg 3-1, and the second leg went to extra time. Marco Asensio, on loan from PSG, scored twice, and Ian Maatsen added another to secure a 3-0 win and wrap up the tie.

After Aston Villa secured their place in the next round, former Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha said postgame that PSG will be facing a “different” team than what they faced in Liverpool.
“It’s interesting because Aston Villa will be the underdogs but they have the second-leg at home,” Onuoha said on BBC Radio 5 Live. “It’s going to be so interesting. This PSG side were so impressive in their two legs against Liverpool but this Villa side is different.
“It’s not to say its better or worse than Liverpool, it’s different, and on the sidelines, what a great manager to have as you venture into Europe. It’s going to be a fantastic tie.”
Asensio will have the chance to face the coach who reduced his role this season, a key factor in his decision to join Villa Park during the winter transfer window.
Meanwhile, Unai Emery will reunite with the club he managed from 2016 to 2018, a stint that included a league title, two Coupe de France trophies, two Coupe de la Ligue trophies, and two Trophée des Champions wins.
