Chelsea’s summer plans have been rather scrambled in recent days by the news that their top targets in defence and up front, Dean Huijsen and Liam Delap, are closing in on moves elsewhere.

From what we hear, the other position the Blues are most keen on strengthening is left wing, and according to insider Ben Jacobs’ comments on the London is Blue podcast today, the rumours that have been around for a while about Real Madrid winger Rodrygo Goes do have something to them.

Chelsea chase Rodrygo, Liverpool and Arsenal also in the mix

“Rodrygo is a new name I’m hearing, there’s nothing advanced between Chelsea and Rodrygo, but what I can tell you is that Madrid are willing to let Rodrygo go. He’s been forced to play at Real on the right side because of [Kylian] Mbappe and Vini Jr, but his best position, and where he really likes to play, is on the left side,” Jacobs said.

“Chelsea are aware of that market opportunity, without really moving on it at this point, the same can be said for Arsenal and Liverpool as well. So keep an eye on Premier League clubs and Rodrygo.”

Chelsea could break pattern to bring in established star

Chelsea have focused on young, less expensive players to develop under this ownership, and given Rodrygo is an established star with big wage demands, it would be a break from this established pattern.

However, there’s no reason they wouldn’t be willing to shake things up a bit, especially for a player who they might consider an instant upgrade in a position they’re looking to improve, and perhaps even to make a PR splash in securing a big name.
