Blackburn Rovers are eyeing a Coventry City January swoop
Blackburn Rovers have made an offer to Coventry City for Brandon Thomas-Asante.
According to Sky Sports (10.14), the Lancashire outfit have submitted a £1.75 million bid to sign the forward this January.
The 26-year-old signed for the Sky Blues last summer from West Brom, and has been a regular presence in the side this season.
Thomas-Asante has made 25 appearances in the Championship, albeit only eight starts, contributing one goal and one assist.
Blackburn have made an offer to sign Thomas-Asante on a permanent basis this January.
John Eustace is keen to improve his forward options, with the club currently in the mix for a play-off place.
It is understood an initial bid worth £1.75 million has been made to their Championship rivals, who only signed Thomas-Asante in August of last year.
Thomas-Asante has struggled for consistent game time under Frank Lampard, who was appointed as manager in late November.
The Ghana international has made just one league start under the new Coventry boss, which came in a 2-1 loss to Norwich City earlier this month.
It remains to be seen whether £1.75 million will be enough to convince the Sky Blues to cash in, with Thomas-Asante having a contract until 2028.
Blackburn have also been linked with re-signing Ben Brereton Diaz this month, but it’s been claimed by the Daily Mail that his preference is a return to Sheffield United instead.
Blackburn are currently seventh in the Championship table, albeit with a game in hand over their top six rivals.
Eustace’s side will face Portsmouth on Wednesday evening to make up that extra fixture and can move up to fifth with a win.
However, Rovers have not won any of their last five in the league, with their last victory coming against Luton Town in December.
Blackburn host Portsmouth this evening in a 7.45pm kick-off.
Thomas-Asante showed promise at West Brom during his two seasons there, scoring 18 times in the Championship from 72 appearances.
But it’s not clicked so far for him at Coventry, and they may feel cashing in for £1.75 million might be the right decision depending on Lampard’s direction for the first team squad.
It’s clear that the forward is down the pecking order at the CBS Arena, so Blackburn are looking to take advantage.
This could be a shrewd bit of business, as his arrival would add some solid depth to Eustace’s attacking options amid their top six push.
