Following their opening 5-0 defeat against Bournemouth on August 18th, Bristol Rovers have now been competing in the FA Women’s National League for almost two months now.

While their initial defeat in the league’s opening weekend may not have foreshadowed the best results for the team, the following weeks have shown Rovers’ grit and resilience. They are fighting hard to keep their place in the FA Women’s National League and have recorded some solid results since their opening day defeat.

Bristol Rovers fighting to prove a point

In their two league matches immediately following the team’s initial defeat, Bristol Rovers won against Abingdon United and Bridgwater United, 4-1 and 4-0 respectively. While the next few games saw both losses and victories for the side, they nevertheless currently hold fourth place in the league. There are many factors that can be viewed as key contributors to Bristol Rovers’ strong foothold in the FA Women’s National League this season.

For example, it is clear to see the Gas Girls’ new signings over the summer are beginning to form an invaluable part of a squad, rising to the challenge of fourth tier football.

When reviewing goalscoring statistics within the league so far, there is one player who stands out. Currently the league’s fourth top goal scorer, Meg Jarvis has scored six goals and contributed three assists for the Rovers in seven league appearances. Described by the club as ‘a talented centre-forward who brings a wealth of experience from her time with Swindon Town, Bristol City, and Bridgewater’.

Jarvis signed for Bristol Rovers in July and has been a key part of the team’s attack and National League Campaign so far. She hit a tally of nine goals in eight appearances in all competitions so far this season. However, the forward is not the only new signing to be making an impact for the side.

While only contributing one goal and one assist to the side’s league campaign so far, Daisy Ackerman has also been consistently starting for the Gas since signing for them in the summer.

It is clear that, with new singings and consistent vision, Bristol Rovers are establishing themselves as a side who undoubtedly have great potential to excel in their new league setting. Where will they finish come the end of the season?
