Matchday 19 in the Bundesliga saw dropped points and plenty gained in all areas of the table. The race for Champions League and Europa League spots continue to tighten, whilst some clubs appear to be sleep walking into a relegation fight. Here are your talking points and recap from matchday 19 in the Bundesliga.

Bayer Leverkusen Drop Points

Bayer Leverkusen dropped points from a winning position, having led RB Leipzig 0-2, only to draw 2-2. Xabi Alonso’s side took a commanding lead and found themselves 0-2 up after just 36 minutes.

The first of those goals, scored once again by Patrick Schick, was made following a beautiful solo run from Florian Wirtz. If you haven’t already, look back at his highlights from that game – €150m doesn’t seem that bad of an investment if you’re Real Madrid.

Leipzig responded through full-back David Raum’s freekick. A special moment for the German international, who has only just made his comeback following surgery in October.

The Saxons rescued a point late on when Edmond Tapsoba accidentally turned the ball into his own net following a looping header.

With Bayern beating Frieburg 2-1, B04 now find themselves 6 points adrift from top spot.

St. Pauli Win Again

St. Pauli made it back-to-back Bundesliga wins for the first time this season, and what a time to do against relegation rivals Heidenheim and now Union Berlin.

That was just St. Pauli’s second home win in the Bundesliga this campaign, and they doubled their home goal tally in this game alone. Before their 3-0 win, the St. Pauli faithful had only seen 3 home goals at home.

Pauli have been criticised for not taking chances when on top in matches. For a team that has one of the best defences in the league, you felt if they started scoring, they would have a great chance for survival – this now appears to be the case.

The back-to-back wins has launched Pauli into 13th place, 6 points clear of the relegation play-off spot. Up next is FC Augsburg in who are in 12th.

Dortmund Remain Winless

Borussia Dortmund remain winless this calendar year following a 2-2 draw at home to Werder Bremen.

Despite Kevin Schlotterbeck getting sent off in the 21st minute for a foul whilst being last man, BVB continued to dominate the first half and found themselves 1-0 at halftime, thanks to Serhou Guirassy.

Dortmund doubled their lead early in the second period through a Marco Friedl own goal. With a two-goal advantage, you half-expected Dortmund to hang on and collect all three points.

However, this is BVB in 2025, and sure enough, in the space of 7 minutes, Bremen found themselves level at 2-2. Bremen then pushed for a winner but had to settle for a point.

Dortmund play Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League on Wednesday before playing FC Heidenheim in matchday 20.

Around The Grounds

Borussia Mönchengladbach one their first game in 4 matches as they comfortably beat Bochum 3-0 at home – Gladbach are now on the periphery of the European places.

Mainz 05 won a competitive dual with Stuttgart 2-0 at home to see them go 6th and a point behind Stuttgart in 4th.

Elsewhere,FC Augsburg beat FC Heidenheim 2-1, whilst Hoffenheim scored a late equaliser to draw 2-2 with Eintracht Frankfurt.
