‘It was almost the perfect weekend for us in terms of other results.

Unfortunately, we fell short at Stamford Bridge.

It’s not a result to get too beaten up about.

Far from imploding as many expected (hoped) Chelsea have been decent this season.

It’s not a question of the manager or systems in my opinion.

Individual errors and our top players not performing is the reason we are sitting in the bottom half of the table and it’s definitely the reason we lost today.

The tide will turn.

We’ve got the perfect shot at revenge in just a few days time.’

Jamie Smith:

‘Let’s be fair here, this was 90% of a decent performance.

At half time it felt like United were getting on top a bit but I honestly struggle to think of a softer, more disappointing concession than Palmer’s strike that ultimately turned out to be the winner.

Maybe we need to take some comfort from an improved performance at a tricky venue and put everything on a massive game on Wednesday night.

They haven’t knocked us out the Premier League but we can spark them out of the league cup and kick on from there.’

‘A disappointing loss against a team that I cannot see making the top 4 this season.

Defensively wanting again, the back 4/5 have been exposed in recent games and today we got punished or it.

The positives – a great team goal and the never giving up attitude.

And so on to the cup on Wednesday, a plus that we are at home and another plus… their defence looks beatable!’

Mark Jankowski:

‘Not a terrible performance but some very sloppy play at both ends of the pitch have cost us any chance of leaving West London with something to show for our efforts.

Despite the loss I’m confident for midweek in the cup but we need to tidy things up quickly in the league, otherwise we’ll find ourselves well off the pace and Howe will start to feel the pressure.’

‘No surprise about the result but the lack of performance and urgency was a real problem.

That could have been much more than 2-1 or we could have made it 2-2.

Tactically we are nowhere near them and that isn’t down to money.

So we continue to lose, Pope continues to punch and be beaten far too easily, Barnes continues to show us why Gordon starts and Isak shows us where we need to spend in January.

The combined age of a pensioner we have in central defence were taken apart today by forwards dropping deep to receive the ball.

Their manager knows what he’s doing.

We continue to play 433 and then go 208 for the last couple of minutes.

To quote the Cure “just like the old days…. it’s just like the old days.”

Ps hope I haven’t offended any of the ppl who remember Pope from two years ago, think we won it on stats, still think we are making progress and still think we are challenging for top four.’

David Punton:

‘What a wretched record we have at Stamford Bridge.

There must be something in the water because every time we go there it ends up in defeat.

Wins here as rare as hen’s teeth.

We’d managed to get level but wasn’t to be and we have come up well short again.

Things have become a slog.

The once well oiled machine is having some issues.

That’s no wins in five, for the record.

The even better news is we have this lot again in midweek and the Arsenal.

Like I said, the life and times of a Newcastle fan seem to be back where they were.’

‘There was no intensity in our play.

We were slow and ponderous and we got what we deserved against a team who let’s face it, aren’t that good.

Too many weak links and too many passengers.

‘I was sitting in the front row today, just right of the goal, so don’t know how bad Isak’s miss was.

Last season when Chelsea were bringing in multi million pound deals, we scoffed at them.

Well the shoe is definitely on the other foot now. With two goalies, a 3rd string Sheffield United striker and a free transfer from Bournemouth on our bench.’
