Last weekend the first rumours of Chelsea’s potential interest in Lamine Camara came to light, and we wrote about them here.

The Monaco midfielder is both full of energy and tackling with a great engine, but also has some silky technical skills and delivers a great set piece. That is a rare combination, and it’s no surprise to hear that many teams are interested in bringing him in.

CaughtOffside today have an exclusive report which claims that Liverpool have taken the lead in trying to secure the midfielder, with Tottenham also in the mix. Camara has apparently been scouted “heavily by a number of top clubs around Europe, most notable Liverpool, Spurs, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.”

The 21 year old looks to keep getting better and better, and has all the tools to be a huge hit in the Premier League. Monaco are reportedly looking for a transfer fee around €45m-50m, which is very reasonable for a player with his potential. No wonder there’s so much interest.

Given those teams in the mix, it will be hard for Chelsea to fight to the front of the queue. The Senegal international will have to decide if he prefers to join a team which already has players in his position but is set up to win trophies now and over the next few years (like Liverpool) or a team like Tottenham who lack players in that position but also don’t look likely to win much anytime soon.

Chelsea thought they had their midfield sorted, but Romeo Lavia’s constant injuries in the 2 years since he joined the club have maybe convinced them he can’t be relied upon and another option is needed.
