Chelsea have been handed a triple injury boost after Cole Palmer, Reece James and Christopher Nkunku returned to training after issues.

The trio were all involved in Wednesday’s training session ahead of the club’s Europa Conference League clash with FC Copenhagen tomorrow evening. Chelsea lead 2-1 from the first leg in Denmark last week, as the Blues look to book their place in the competition’s quarter-finals.

James scored the opening goal in the Danish capital but was not part of the squad for the weekend win over Leicester in the Premier League. However, the Chelsea captain, Palmer and Nkunku are all in contention to feature at Stamford Bridge. Palmer played against Leicester at the weekend – missing a penalty – with Maresca revealing afterwards that the club’s leading scorer had been struggling with an illness.

“Cole [Palmer], Reece [James] and Christopher [Nkunku] today was their first session,” Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca confirmed at his pre-match press conference.

“Yesterday they were not here and two days ago they rested. The reason why is because all of them had some problems but today they were all back and better The only one still injured is Malo Gusto. In terms of long-term injuries, Nico [Jackson] is still out and Noni [Madueke] is out. But the rest they can play.

“Romeo [Lavia] is much better. He is not in Conference League squad unfortunately. It is more or less similar to Reece James in terms of the main target for us is to help him be fit until the end of the season and play as many games as he can.”
