Chelsea star linked with La Liga move still showing commitment where it matters

The chatter about Enzo Fernandez wanting to leave Chelsea and join Real Madrid this summer isn’t going anywhere. If anything it’s only getting stronger.
We’ve said repeatedly that there’s just no way a move can happen – not for a few years at least. We spent a vast sum of money on the Argentina star and tied him down on a contract until 2032. Madrid would have to offer us more than £100m to sign him, and that’s just not on the cards for them.
This logic has been reinforced by Jacob Steinberg’s story for the Guardian which insisted it was a non-starter, then Fabrizio Romano’s story from this morning along the same lines.
We can see why these rumours won’t go away though – Fernandez himself certainly isn’t helping matters. As Football Espana noted today, a recent interview with Gaston Edul saw the midfielder chat about playing FIFA on Argentina duty.
Asked which team he plays with, the former River Plate man replies with a grin “Real Madrid. Always Real Madrid.”
You can see Enzo’s answer in the clip embedded here:
Come on mate! It’s not difficult to just lie and say Chelsea. Still, we’re not going to get huffy about it. What matter is what happens on the pitch, and you can’t question Enzo’s commitment there. Of all the players in the squad, he’s one of those who most look like it matters to them.
We hope this saga doesn’t drag on too long – it will be frustrating to have it hanging over us all summer as we try to take this team to the next level. If Fernandez keeps flirting like this to keep the door open, it will quickly grow tiresome.
