Enzo Maresca confirmed Noni Madueke is facing a spell on the sidelines after picking up a hamstring injury in the defeat to Brighton on Friday night.

The Blues slumped to a 3-0 defeat on the south coast making it two losses to the Seagulls in less than a week after also being dumped out of the FA Cup.

Chelsea offered nothing and were punished for dreadful defending throughout with Karou Mitoma scoring a brilliant goal and Yankuba Minteh grabbing a brace.

Madueke set for a spell on the sidelines

The defeat means Maresca’s men have now won just two of their last nine league matches and they will drop out of the top four if results go against them over the weekend.

Injuries to Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu coupled with the absence of Mykhailo Mudryk and the departure of Joao Felix to AC Milan have left Chelsea light in attack.

Maresca made one change in attack with Madueke coming in for Jadon Sancho, but the winger went off injured in the first half.

It’s the last thing Chelsea needed and it now leaves them with Sancho and Pedro Neto as the only fit senior wingers, whilst they also have teenager Tyrique George.

Speaking after the game Maresca confirmed Madueke had suffered a hamstring injury and was set for a spell on the sidelines.

“Malo is okay. Noni, unfortunately it is a hamstring problem, so he will be out for a while,” he told his post match press conference.

Maresca is coming under increasing pressure, although Gary Neville feels the pressure should be on those above him and losing Madueke is another headache he could do without.

Madueke is Chelsea’s highest scoring winger with seven goals this season, and he’s been working hard to improve his end product.

Chelsea without Madueke face a tough trip to Aston Villa next weekend and it could get worse before it gets better for the Blues.
