Chelsea resume their quest for Europa Conference League glory when they travel to face Legia Warsaw in the first leg of their quarter-final on Thursday.
The game at the Marshall Józef Piłsudski Legia Warsaw Stadium kicks off at 5:45pm (UK time) and will be shown on TNT Sports 1.
Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Jorgensen; Acheampong, Colwill, Badiashile, Cucurella; Fernandez, Dewsbury-Hall; Neto, Palmer, George; Jackson.
Enzo Maresca will be without Wesley Fofana and Romeo Lavia who are both unavailable due to injury. Both have struggled for consistent minutes this season due to their injury problems, but Fofana is now ruled out for the season.
Marc Guiu also remains out having sustained a hamstring injury against West Ham United back in February, but Maresca has made it clear that the 19-year-old will return before the end of the season.
There is no new injury updates apart from those three, meaning the likes of Reece James, Noni Madueke, Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson are all travelling with the squad to face Legia Warsaw on Thursday.
Maresca has also confirmed Filip Jorgensen will start between the sticks, as Robert Sanchez has been reinstated as Chelsea’s Premier League No.1.
Chelsea have scored 10 goals in their last eight games, with four of those goals coming against bottom-of-the-league Southampton, who have already been relegated from the Premier League. In this eight game stretch, the Blues have five wins, one draw and two defeats.
That being said, Maresca’s side haven’t been shy of finding the net in the Conference League. The Blues have scored 28 goals in their eight games played in the competition, averaging 3.63 per game, sitting pretty as the highest scorers in the competition.
The Blues top scorer in the competition is Marc Guiu, who has scored six goals in six appearances, while Christopher Nkunku has five goals in seven games. Guiu will be missing through injury, but Nkunku should be available, after being substituted at half-time against Brentford at the weekend.
Legia Warsaw concede 7.13 shots inside the box per game, making them the 11th-best defence in this metric in the competition. This will make the Polish side the toughest defensive unit the Blues have faced in the Conference League so far.
Chelsea will be hoping Nkunku can step up once more in the Conference League, while someone like Cole Palmer, who wasn’t registered during the group phase of the competition, could be the game changer in this one.
