Making these comments to the Irish News, Wilder had plenty of positive things to say about the Whites after the final whistle, after seeing his Sheffield United team suffer a 2-0 defeat against them last night.

This looked set to be a mouth-watering occasion - and it was hard to predict.

Leeds may have had the home advantage, but prior to the game, the Blades had been unbeaten in the league and had climbed into the promotion mix despite starting the season with a points deduction.

The Whites also suffered a setback before the international break, with a freak last-minute Sunderland goal resulting in them dropping two points at the Stadium of Light.

They were able to redeem themselves last night though, with two second-half goals proving to be the difference in the end.

Pascal Struijk's 69th-minute goal from a corner put Leeds in the driving seat - and Mateo Joseph remained strong in the 90th minute to slot the ball past Michael Cooper.

Joseph's strike sealed the points - and Leeds fans can enjoy the rest of their weekend following a heartening victory at Elland Road.

It hasn't been all plain sailing for the West Yorkshire side this term, dropping points against a few sides this term, including Portsmouth.

However, they are now on the right path and will be hoping to build on a successful Friday night victory at Elland Road.

Wilder would have been very keen to have claimed victory at Elland Road last night, but post-match, he couldn't help but talk about his admiration for Leeds.

He told the Irish News: "There’s going to be teams that have their moments and have their good times and their not so good times, but I think anybody who finishes above Leeds… and I’m not sure anybody will do.

"I’ve got no complaints in terms of the result. They’ve got outstanding players, the squad’s laden with top players and we have to brush ourselves down and go again.

"It’s been a good start, but we haven’t played anybody of this calibre."

Leeds United look to be in a strong position to win promotion

Leeds have a strong squad, even after the departures of some key players in the summer.

And with the Whites beating one of the best teams in the division last night, that should give them plenty of confidence going forward.

Registering 90 points last term, they were unlucky not to win promotion last term.

But following this win, and with the quality they have, it would be a slight surprise if they don't win promotion at the end of this term.
