Bristol Rovers find themselves battling to stay in League One with just a handful of games remaining.

Inigo Calderon's side have endured a hugely disappointing season so far, having registered a 15th-placed finish in the third tier last term.

However, the club haven't been able to build on that, and are now flirting with relegation danger as we enter the final weeks of the campaign.

As such, regardless of whether Rovers find themselves in League One or Two next season, a hugely important summer transfer window awaits them in order to get the club moving in the right direction once again.

We asked our Bristol Rovers fan pundit, Ziggy Carter: 'What is your main concern for your club in the summer transfer window - something that the club can't afford to happen?'

Carter said: "I think our main concern for this transfer window would be not improving the positions that need to be improved.

"On not signing a striker especially, it's become clear over the season that the strikers that we have, either on loan or permanent signings, aren't quite at the level.

"Such is the case with Michael Reindorf, who is on loan from Cardiff City, and was supposed to be the striker that we brought in to be our striker, and is not at the level.

"Ollie Dewsbury is in the squad over Reindorf, which shows the level that he's being outdone by a 17-year-old, isn't really what you want.

"I think Chris Martin is getting on a bit; could he do a year at the club? Maybe. But, he is getting quite old, and it's clear that we can't rely on him as much as we could for goals like we did in the first season that we had him.

"Promise Omechere is injured quite a bit, so I think not signing a striker, and not getting any wing-backs as well, which is clearly a position we need to improve on as well."

Bristol Rovers have to get summer transfer recruitment right or their downward slide may continue

However Bristol Rovers' season finishes, this term will undoubtedly go down as a very disappointing campaign.

Signings such as Reindorf, Ruel Sotiriou, Omochere, Shaqai Forde, Jamie Lindsay and Joel Senior just haven't worked out for the Gas, as they've struggled to obtain fruitful returns on a number of their investments.

Goals have been a huge issue for Calderon's side this term, as has keeping the ball from hitting the back of their own net, with obvious areas of improvement required at both ends of the pitch.

But, if Rovers endure another summer of recruitment that doesn't garner too many quality starting additions and impact-makers, then they may well struggle to arrest their slump regardless of which division they're plying their trade in next term.

As such, a pivotal summer transfer window awaits for Bristol Rovers. They must sharpen their cutting edge, and they must find a way to become more watertight in defence.
