FC Barcelona continue to have some of the best players in the world at their disposal. For the Catalan giants, having such players is key to achieving their future objectives. Moreover, praise for such players even ends up coming from outside Barcelona as well.
Throughout this season, the best performances from certain Barça players have invited praise. Lamine Yamal, for instance, is someone who simply knows no bounds when it comes to putting people on the edge of their seats and amazing them with his footballing quality.
From Zinedine Zidane’s amazement at Yamal’s ability to perform at the highest level to a global star like Cole Palmer even naming him the world’s best player, there is simply no denying the Barcelona prodigy’s talent and quality. However, there is another player who invites a similar kind of praise.
Spanish midfielder Pedri, renowned for his ability to dictate games and control them, was simply fundamental to Barça’s success this season. It is no surprise that top players and legends have praised his game as well, and Claude Makelele is the latest name to chime in.
As shared by GOAL, the former Real Madrid and Chelsea midfielder was asked to choose between some of the UEFA Champions League’s most impactful players this season, and he made his picks from the various duels that he was given.
From between Ousmane Dembele and Raphinha, he ended up choosing the Barcelona player. Then, from between Pedri and Vitinha, it was once again the Barça midfielder who came out victorious. Afterwards, he picked Achraf Hakimi over Alessandro Bastoni, and he also picked Barcelona star Lamine Yamal over Inter’s Lautaro Martinez.

Then, from the remaining players that he was left with, he picked Pedri over Raphinha and also chose Lamine Yamal over Hakimi. Ultimately, from between the two Barcelona superstars, it was finally Pedri who had Makelele’s support as the best performing player in this season’s UEFA Champions League.
Similarly, former Liverpool and Real Madrid player Steven McManaman also chose Pedri as his victor when asked similar questions, and even claimed that he loves Pedri and went on to praise him further:
“Pedri is a better footballer, I think he’s a lovely player.”
Arguably the best player in the world in his position, the Barcelona star was crucial to Hansi Flick’s system and the way his team operated this season. Even Real Madrid legend Toni Kroos could not hold back his admiration for the player previously, and claimed that he was the best player in his position as well.
