Franco Mastantuono continues to impress early in his River Plate career, and AC Milan are among the teams watching him closely.
As Calciomercato.com recall, Mastantuono scored in his first game back for River Plate after returning from the South American U20 Championship, the most important youth tournament in the continent. He netted in Los Millonarios’ 2-0 win at home to San Martìn, a club that had just been promoted.
The 17-year-old attacking midfielder – who can also be deployed as a winger on the right cutting in – looks a real talent for the future. He played every match at the South American U20 championship, even featuring in Argentina’s monumental 6-0 win over Brazil.
Now, Mastantuono has returned to River and will be available to the head coach Marcelo Gallardo, while in the background the top European clubs are monitoring his growth. Milan really like the Argentine talent but it is Real Madrid who are leading the race at present.
Los Blancos have a verbal agreement with the player and have been negotiating with River Plate for some time to secure his future transfer. The Rossoneri are not out of the running yet but are behind Real, who moved first to establish the costs and feasibility of things.
As a reminder, Marco Pellegrino – who is on loan at Huracan from Milan – was asked last week which player he would recommend to Milan from the Argentine league. His reply: “Franco Mastantuono, attacking midfielder for River Plate. He’s 17 years old, great quality.”
