Not just that, this time around, they lost in their own backyard. Just for context, before this year, Brendan Rodgers had lost in this fixture only once. Now, he has tasted defeat in the last two, tripling his tally within months.

Of course, it is worth pointing out that Celtic were not at full strength against the Rangers. They were without two regular starters in the form of club captain Callum McGregor and first-choice centre-back Auston Trusty.

Maeda has been in the form of his life this season, especially over the past few months since the departure of Kyogo to Rennes, which has opened up the opportunity for him to play as a centre-forward. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 28 goals and provided 9 assists in 42 appearances in the 24/25 campaign so far.

Maeda was always viewed as a key member of this Celtic team. But he was never someone who was known for putting up big numbers for the Hoops. This season, he is doing that as well, while his tireless work-rate remains in place. He found the back of the net, even in the recent defeat to the Rangers.

So, Celtic fans will be hoping that Maeda's injury is nothing serious and that he is back available after the international break. They would like get over the line in the league title race as soon as possible and also win the Scottish Cup.
