Manchester City return to Premier League action on Saturday afternoon as they hope to increase the pressure on rivals Arsenal and Liverpool by going top for at least 24 hours.

Pep Guardiola and his players remain unbeaten since the start of the season and extended that run last time out thanks to a last-minute winning goal from John Stones to complete a comeback at Molineux and defeat Wolves via a 1-2 scoreline.

It is the start of a gruelling run for the Premier League champions as they look to maintain a competitive edge to their campaign despite facing a growing list of injuries in the squad, with four away contests coming on the bounce.

As for their opponents Southampton, Russell Martin’s side remain winless in the season so far in their return to the top-flight, scrapping away with Wolves at the foot of the division with one draw and seven defeats to their name in the opening eight matches.

Manchester City’s long-term absentees in Rodri and Oscar Bobb were joined by Kyle Walker and a knee problem sustained during the international break. Jack Grealish is also sidelined after picking up a problem in training last Monday.

Jeremy Doku is also not expected to return to action following an injury sustained against Wolves until after the November international break, while Kevin De Bruyne is not ready to feature despite training throughout the week.
