The upcoming La Liga fixture between Valencia and Real Madrid has today been officially postponed.
This comes with the city of Valencia in the midst of three days of mourning.
The Valencian community, and its surrounding regions, were on Tuesday night hit by a sudden and devastating natural disaster.
As much came after a DANA – a high-altitude isolated depression – gave rise to flash floods.
The death toll is already approaching the 100-mark, with many others still thought to be missing, and injured.
Safe to say, then, that it should come as no surprise to hear of this weekend’s scheduled meeting between Valencia and Real Madrid being called off.
As per a statement on the part of La Liga, released on Thursday afternoon:
‘Following the request made yesterday to the RFEF to postpone the matches of matchday 12 of LALIGA EA SPORTS and matchday 13 of LALIGA HYPERMOTION that were to be played in the Valencian Community this weekend, LALIGA informs that the Competition judge has ruled in favor of said request.
‘In its resolution, it calls on LALIGA and the Clubs to formulate before next Tuesday, November 5 at 2:00 p.m. a proposal with new dates for the corresponding LALIGA matches: Villarreal CF-Rayo Vallecano, Valencia CF-Real Madrid, CD Castellón-RC Ferrol, CD Eldense-SD Huesca and Levante UD-Málaga CF.’
Early reports point towards the Valencia-Real Madrid fixture’s new date being likely to come in February of 2025.
