A report has highlighted just how far behind AC Milan are compared to their city rivals Inter when it comes to the amount that they are spending on player salaries.

Today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (seen below) has a graphic which ranks all of the teams currently in Serie A based on the total gross wages that they will pay out for the 2024-25 season, and the only team below €20m is Lecce at €19.9m.

Up at the top end of the table, Inter are leading the way by some distance with €141.7m in gross salaries to pay out this season, while Juventus are quite far behind in second on €113.8m.

Then, Milan are in third on €96.6m, which means that they are over €17m behind Juve and a whopping €45m behind their city rivals the Nerazzurri. In fact, the closer gap is to Roma and Napoli in fourth and fifth, given they are on €87.9m and €85.7m respectively.

In a feature after the summer window we looked at how the business done has impacted Milan’s accounts from a squad cost perspective, and it has increased again compared to previous years, but many argue that wage budget is what is more congruent with success.

Calcio e Finanza also provided a more detailed breakdown of the Rossoneri’s salaries including the highest earners and the differences between net and gross.
