Celtic have successfully appealed their two-match ban handed to Daizen Maeda for his red card against Young Boys which has now been rescinded to one, meaning that the Japanese attacker is available to Brendan Rodgers for their Champions League play-off against Bayern Munich at Celtic Park on Wednesday night.
Maeda was sent off in the 89th minute against Young Boys after the referee consulted VAR for what was deemed to be a kick on another player. Celtic opted to appeal to UEFA to reduce the ban, which was confirmed on Tuesday.
It means that Maeda, who has scored 21 and created seven in 33 games across all competitions for Celtic this season will be available against Bayern Munich. And with Alphonso Davies a doubt and one of Konrad Laimer or Sacha Boey on the opposite flank, the Rekordmeister will be aware of the 27-year-old’s pressing ability and explosive pace, which could well cause Vincent Kompany’s Bayern problems.
