The Eddie Howe Chelsea Press Conference has taken place.
The Newcastle United Head Coach speaking to the media ahead of Sunday’s game.
United facing Chelsea at 12pm on Sunday at St James’ Park.
Eddie Howe Chelsea press conference – 9 May 2025:
“Every game we have between now and the end of the season is hugely important.
“We need to give everything we can to win the match.
“Our players need to be ready to perform to their best levels.”
Eddie Howe on team news:
“We have a couple of players we are assessing and we will see how they are this weekend, other than that we have trained well all week.”
Eddie Howe on Anthony Gordon, who is targeting a first Premier League start since February:
“He’s pushing.
“This is his best week physically.
“He had an issue he picked up with England and it’s taken him a while to get back to full fitness.
“He did well when he came on against Brighton and he adds a different dimension to our game, directness and running.”
Eddie Howe on home advantage:
“Our home form has been good, we have a great environment to play in, we need the crowd with us, it is imperative.
“We know they will be there for us and we have to perform for them.
“It is the kind of game that we need to rise to the occasion.”
Eddie Howe on the point at Brighton:
“On reflection, I thought we were pretty good in the game, the last pass was maybe missing and the crossing, but a lot of control and some positives to take.”
Eddie Howe on Chelsea who made 10 changes for their European match on Thursday night:
“We have played Chelsea twice this season, we know their qualities.
“They have a lot of quality players; they have found consistency in their league side.
“We expect Chelsea to revert back to pretty much the side as their last league game, which was an impressive win against Liverpool.
“They have performed pretty well of late.
“They have got a lot of confidence and attacking players back in form.”
Eddie Howe on Joelinton:
“I saw Joe yesterday for the first time in a while because he had been away getting treatment.
“He returned to Brazil briefly but he has been back in Barcelona for another injection and I think he is feeling pretty good.
“Whether we see him before the end of the season though, I’m not sure.”
Eddie Howe on Dan Burn:
“Dan’s season will be up there, if you had written a dream season, it would have been very close to this for him.
“The goal in the cup final, that was the best header I have ever seen him deliver, then very quickly he had the England call up and debut.
