Manchester City have reportedly named an updated price tag for in-demand goalkeeper Ederson, ahead of what is expected to be another uncertain summer for the Brazilian.
The 31-year-old emerged from the last summer transfer window at the tail-end of several months of uncertainty and widespread transfer speculation linking him with a spectacular exit from European football.
Whilst Ederson has no doubt improved in the shot-stopping department, and his vital role in Manchester City’s system remains ever-present, his ageing profile and a growing demand for superstar names in one league could tempt him into a change of direction.
And that was the feeling in various quarters last summer, with it being believed that Saudi Arabia and the vast amounts of money available to players was a viable option for Ederson. However, no club in the Saudi Pro League was ultimately willing to meet City’s valuation.
But after a summer in which the reigning Premier League champions had demanded a fee in the region of £50 million, one year down the line and it is now being reported that the stance taken by the club has significantly altered.
According to the information of The Sun newspaper, Ederson could now leave Manchester City at the end of the ongoing season, with sources said to be claiming that Etihad Stadium officials would listen to offers around £25 million.
It remains to be seen what direction Manchester City would take, should Ederson manage to find a route into the Middle-East and the Premier League champions be satisfied by a financial proposal to them in the process.
Stefan Ortega Moreno would likely be granted more responsibilities as a mainstay starting goalkeeper, and Manchester City would almost certainly have to extend his contract even further with improved terms in the process.
Any movement for Ederson would also force City into the transfer market for a new profile between the sticks, but after transfer links to both young and experienced names from across Europe, no figure has emerged at the front of the pack just yet.
