England conclude their Nations League campaign at home to the Republic of Ireland this evening.

The Three Lions can confirm promotion back to the top tier with a win at Wembley, or if Lee Carsley’s side better Greece’s result against Finland.

Interim manager Carsley leads England for the final time, with Thomas Tuchel to take charge in the New Year.

An impressive 3-0 win in Greece on Thursday night put England’s Nations League fate back in their own hands. Ollie Watkins opened the scoring inside seven minutes, before an own goal and debutant Curtis Jones sealed success in Athens.

England team news

Carsley has confirmed that Harry Kane will start after the England captain was dropped to the bench against Greece.

“It’s not the first time I have been a sub for England. Since Lee has been in charge, I have only played one game per camp,” Kane said this week.

“I always want to start every game, I have never shied away from that, we’re in a tough stage of the season.

“But whenever called upon, I will always give my all for the team, whether it’s off the bench or starting, I will always give my ultimate effort.”

The 31-year-old will return against Ireland, though Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa is out. Konsa is the 10th withdrawal from this month’s squad after injuring his hip against Greece.

Jarell Quansah and Taylor Harwood-Bellis are competing to replace Konsa and could make their England debuts at Wembley.

Jarrod Bowen and Morgan Rogers are also pushing for places in the starting side. The latter made his debut as a substitute against Greece
