Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez rejected attempts from several Atletico Madrid players to convince him to join the Spanish giants during the international break, a report has claimed.
Despite being contracted until 2032, Fernandez has been linked with a move away from Chelsea in recent months, with most of the speculation revolving around an ambitious Real Madrid switch.
According to Eduardo Burgos, it was a transfer to the other half of the Spanish capital being proposed as Fernandez faced questions from a number of Atletico players during time away with Argentina for World Cup qualifiers this month.
There were no fewer than five Atletico players in the latest Argentina squad. Right-back Nahuel Molina was joined by midfielder Rodrigo De Paul and forward trio Julian Alvarez, Angel Correa and Giuliano Simeone, the latter of whom is also the son of Atleti manager Diego.
The report claims "several" of the Atletico representatives spoke with Fernandez to try and convince him to join the club, but Chelsea's vice-captain made it clear he had no interest in making the move.
Fernandez is not interested in leaving Chelsea, where he has forced his way firmly back into the thinking of manager Enzo Maresca after a spell on the sidelines earlier this season.
However, it is still claimed that "all options are open" in regards to Fernandez's future - albeit apparently not a move to Atletico.
Chelsea have already signed young midfielder Dario Essugo from Sporting CP and will welcome Brazil international Andrey Santos back from a dazzling loan spell with Strasbourg in the summer, which will undoubtedly ramp up the competition in Maresca's midfield.
