Erling Haaland will have to be assessed before Pep Guardiola decides whether or not to start the injured Man City striker against Spurs on Wednesday.
The Norway international was forced off the pitch with a knee issue during the second half of the club’s 4-0 win over Newcastle United in the Premier League on 15 February.
The injury meant Haaland was an unused substitute for Man City’s 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the Uefa Champions League and missed their 2-0 loss to Liverpool at home on Sunday.
Guardiola says that the 24-year-old is feeling better, but will only know after they train on Tuesday night whether he can play any part at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
“Tonight we will know, after training,” he said in his pre-match press conference. “I hope so but I don’t know yet. He feels better but couldn’t have played in the last two games.”
Man City evidently badly need Haaland to return to action to help arrest their startling form, having lost four of their last six games in all competitions.
The task of rebuilding the squad ahead of next season is a monumental one, but Guardiola insisted it is not the biggest challenge of his career to date.
He said: “We have done it already. After nine years, it’s not the same team we started with. We have done it two or three times already.
“It’s not the biggest challenge. The challenge I had was when I was starting my managerial career with my staff that we could do it.
