The Toffees travel to the Leigh Sports Village to take on The Red Devils on Sunday afternoon.
Manchester United go into the game in second place in the Barclays Women’s Super League table and having lost just twice all season. When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Everton boss Sørensen said that he has not been surprised by The Red Devils’ successful season so far.
“I think they’ve done really well,” Sørensen said. “They have a very good team and I’m not surprised that they have done so well compared to last year. Their squad has a good mix of young players and experience in the spine of the team and the new keeper has done extremely well. Defensively, they’ve been really good and offensively, they’ve recently been even more dynamic and creating chances.
“They are in a good position right now with a few games to play. They have a few tough games coming up but it’s not surprising that they are pushing the other traditional top teams to the end. It’ll be fun to see how it plays out.”
Everton lost the reverse fixture 1-0 at Walton Hall Park back in September. Sørensen believes that his side should have got something from that game and says that the Merseysiders are better equipped to face Manchester United this time around.
He said “In the reverse game, we should have taken something from it, we were on top for large periods and made life really hard for them. It’s a long time ago based on where the squad are now, we are in a different place in terms of how we can approach the game, the game plan and what it looks like in the last 15-30 minutes of the game.
“We feel more prepared to take the teams above us on, we have different solutions. We have developed throughout the season in terms of style of play, the dynamic that we want to be as a team; we can defend in different ways and of course, the signings that we have made means that teams find it more difficult to understand how they are going to approach us.
“Overall, we are in a good place. We know it’s going to be really hard. It’s an early kick-off, so there are additional challenges in terms of travel but we need to be ready for the game.”
Everton’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Manchester United kicks-off at 12pm on Sunday afternoon.
