Everton defender Kenzie Weir has signed a one-year contract extension with the club.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Blue Girls this afternoon.

The 21-year-old centre-back is a product of the Everton academy system and she has made seven appearances for The Toffees to date. The player has gained experience out on loan at both Lewes and Glasgow City in recent seasons.

Weir has spent several months recovering from an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury but she is now back to fitness and ready to compete for minutes in the Everton first team.

After signing on with Everton for another year, Weir said “I am so happy and I am really grateful to everyone. It has been a really, really tough year for me mentally and physically, but this is what I’ve been working towards. I feel fit now and I am ready to put in the hard work and look forward to next year.

“I 100-percent could not have done it without the girls here. The medical staff have also been so great with me. If I did not have the girls here, I do not think I would have been near the same place I am right now. I am just really grateful to them, my family and all the fans for their support throughout.

“The whole group has been great with me. There is a really good feeling here – everyone is close and everyone motivates each other. It’s a top environment and one that has got me through in the hard days.”

Further squad news will be revealed by Everton in due course.
