Goalkeeper Yann Sommer is still on track to return from injury in this month’s Serie A clash between Atalanta and Inter Milan.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Goalkeeper Yann Sommer has missed Inter Milan’s last couple of matches.
The 36-year-old suffered a thumb fracture in training last week. He required surgery to recover from the injury.
Therefore, Sommer has needed some time on the sideline to heal.
In the meantime, Josep Martinez has filled in for Sommer. The Spaniard made his Serie A debut for Inter against Genoa last weekend, and then started against Lazio in the Coppa Italia.
Martinez will also start against Napoli in this evening’s top-of-the-table clash.
According to the Gazzetta, Sommer’s recovery is going according to plan.
The newspaper report that Yann Sommer has had a brace fashioned for his thumb.

The veteran former Bayern Munich and Borussia Monchengladbach keeper will still miss a few more matches.
In addition to today’s match against Napoli, Sommer will also sit out next Saturday’s clash with Monza. Nor will he be available for either leg of a Champions League round of sixteen tie against Feyenoord.
However, reports the Gazzetta, Sommer could be back in action before the international break.
Inter’s last match before the break is away to Atalanta. That will be on the 16th of March.
And according to the Gazzetta, Sommer is still targeting that match – another against title rivals – to make his return.
Meanwhile, reports the Gazzetta, backup keeper Raffaele Di Gennaro will be back in the squad for today’s match against Napoli.
Di Gennaro has been on the sidelines for a number of weeks after undergoing hand surgery of his own.
