Matteo Darmian will start in defense for Inter Milan in Sunday’s Serie A match away to Venezia.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, They report that the 35-year-old will start on the right of the back three with Yann Bisseck out.
Inter coach Simone Inzaghi is still dealing with a litany of injuries in defense.
Benjamin Pavard should be ready to return after a few weeks on the sidelines. But this weekend against Venezia, he will not rush straight back into the starting eleven.
Meanwhile, Yann Bisseck looks to have picked up a muscle problem.
Pavard and Bisseck are the two main starting options on the right side of Inter’s back three.
However, there is another player who is more than capable of filling in their.
Veteran former Manchester United and Parma defender Darmian is versatile enough to play either at wingback or in the back three.
It was on the right side of the defense that the Italian international started throughout Inter’s run to the 2023 Champions League final.
And therefore, Inzaghi will call upon Darmian to start in that position on Sunday.
The Gazzetta’s complete predicted starting eleven for the match is as follows:
Inter (3-5-2): Sommer; Darmian, De Vrij, Bastoni; Dumfries, Barella, Asllani, Mkhitaryan, Dimarco; Thuram, Lautaro.
