The news follows Wednesday exercising a clause in the 31-year-old attacking midfielder’s contract that will extend his stay at Hillsborough.

The Owls' 13-goal top scorer has been repeatedly linked with moves away from the South Yorkshire side, with links from Brazilian giants Santos brewing in the January transfer window.

Football League World spoke exclusively with Sky Sports pundit Lee Hendrie on Josh Windass’ links to Valencia, asking if he thinks the former Wigan Athletic, Rangers and Accrington Stanley man could be tempted by a move away from S6.

“Josh Windass, Sheffield Wednesday obviously could be seeing him leave the football club.” Hendrie told FLW.

“Valencia, the football club want to sign him. Josh being tempted by this? I think he would be. I don’t see why he wouldn’t be. That’s no disrespect to Sheffield Wednesday, but I think the fact of playing in Spain and playing for Valencia - you’re talking a different level.

“I mean, that’s the closest you’re going to get to Premier League football, and that's where these guys would get tempted - I don’t see how you wouldn’t be.

“I think it’d be a loss for Sheffield Wednesday, but I certainly think that it’d be a club that Josh would certainly raise his eyebrows at, and definitely, definitely wouldn’t surprise me if that happened.”

Despite renewed speculation linking Josh Windass with a surprise switch to La Liga, the Sheffield Wednesday forward has poured cold water on reports suggesting a move to Valencia is imminent.

Speaking candidly on the Open Goal podcast, Windass said:

“I don’t know anything about that to be honest. That’ll be because of Carlos [Corberan]. I was close to going to West Brom last summer because I was a free transfer and ended up staying at Sheffield Wednesday.”

Windass, who was the subject of widespread conversation from Owls supporters regarding his future heading into the final weeks of the season, also offered a telling update on his contract situation.

“I’ve got another year but we’ll see [what happens],” he added - suggesting that his future at Hillsborough may not be entirely nailed down.

The 31-year-old has long been admired by Carlos Corberan, now in charge at Valencia, with the Spanish coach having tried to bring him to West Brom on more than one occasion.

Though that move never materialised, Corberan’s admiration has not waned - and his appointment at a top European club has reignited talk of a potential union.

While Wednesday have exercised the one-year extension clause in Windass' deal, the player’s comments suggest that a summer move remains a possibility.
