Fabrizio Romano has ruled out a move for former Manchester United star Maxi Oyedele to Shaktar Donetsk, despite reports this week suggesting a deal was on the cards.

Oyedele, 20, left the Red Devils in the summer to join Polish side Legia Warsaw in a transfer worth just £500,000 after 12 years at Old Trafford.

A sell-on clause was included in the deal, entitling United to 40% of the profits from any future transfer for the midfielder.

Oyedele’s contract with Legia Warsaw contains a €6 million (£5m) release clause which, Romano reveals, could be triggered as a there are a number of clubs interested in signing the 20-year-old.

As an academy graduate, Oyedele’s sale constitutes ‘pure profit’ from the perspective of PSR – the Premier League’s profits and sustainability rules. This would also apply to any proceeds from the sell-on clause.

If a team were to trigger his release clause, it would entitle United to around £2 million as a result – and in a summer where every penny counts at Old Trafford, this would prove a welcome boost.

But one side who will not be signing Oyedele, as had been reporter earlier this week, is Ukrainian champions Shaktar Donetsk.

A report relayed by The Peoples Person had suggested the club were interested in signing Oyedele  after opening talks with Legia Warsaw.

But Romano has poured cold water on the move by ruling Shaktar out as an option after an approach was made.

However, the Italian transfer guru does contend there are “more European clubs keen” on Oyedele, suggesting an exit from Legia Warsaw could still be possible this summer.

Tweet: “Maxi Oyedele will not join Shakhtar Donetsk despite approaches as there are more European clubs keen on signing former Man Utd player.

Understand #MUFC will receive 40% of the future sale for €6m release clause available this summer included into his Legia Warsaw deal.”
