Barcelona needed to make a statement in La Liga and did exactly that last night against Valencia at Montjuic.

The Catalans had a ball against Carlos Corberan’s side and were explosive from start to finish, burying the result in just the opening half hour.

Frenkie de Jong opened the scoring in just the 3rd minute on the night before Ferran Torres doubled the lead five minutes later.

Raphinha made it three for Barcelona and a Fermin Lopez brace took their lead to five goals before the half-time whistle.

Robert Lewandowski’s clinical finish made it six for Barcelona, but only after Valencia pulled one back via Hugo Duro. An own goal from Cesar Tarrega then ruthlessly made it 7-1 for the Blaugrana.

Barça Universal brings you the player ratings from Barcelona 7-1 Valencia.

Wojciech Szczesny: 7

The Polish goalkeeper was barely tested against Valencia as Barcelona retained complete control of the proceedings and barely gave the visitors any chance to hold on to the ball.

Made a rash advance in the box and gave away a penalty once again but was lucky to have it ruled out for a previous foul on Kounde.

Alejandro Balde: 7.5

The left-back continues to grow and impress in his niche and is only looking more dangerous in attack with every passing game.

Balde was a potent threat on the left, always looking to push forward in attack and exhibiting great positional awareness.

Got an assist for Ferran Torres’ goal on the night with a perfectly weighted pass into the box.

Pau Cubarsi: 8.5

The youngster has become Flick’s most trusted resource at the back, and rightly so given his maturity and positional awareness at just 18 years of age.

Dished out a defensive masterclass against Valencia and safeguarded Barcelona’s penalty area largely. Also racked up a sensational assist for Fermin’s first goal of the night.

Eric Garcia: 7.5

The Spanish defender started against Valencia ahead of Ronald Araujo and showed clearly what he brings to the table – elite ball-playing skills.

While Garcia was decent with his defensive contributions, it was his ability to play out from the back that stood out and shone.

Jules Kounde: 7.5

Kounde, as always, had a ball down Barcelona’s right wing as he coupled with Lamine Yamal to pose regular threats and ask questions of the Valencia defence.

Marc Casado: 7.5

A solid showing from the youth star who continued his silent dominance in midfield, winning the loose balls and keeping the ball in Barcelona’s possession on the team’s night out.

Frenkie de Jong: 8

The captain is looking like a much more natural part of the team with every passing game and he did a great job in replacing Pedri in midfield last night.

He opened the scoring with a simple finish off a Lamine Yamal assist and controlled the proceedings by dictating the tempo of the game.

Fermin Lopez: 10

The La Masia midfielder finally looked like his former self once again for the first time this season. In many ways, the game against Valencia was the one where Fermin announced his return as one of the best in the business.

The youngster was phenomenal across the park, creating chances with his runs between the lines, providing key passes and even pitching in defensively.

Scored his first goal of the season with a wonderful finish off Cubarsi’s assist and completed his brace late in the half volleying the rebound off Raphinha’s strike.

Even racked up an assist for the Brazilian’s goal and later for Lewandowski’s goal on the night.

Lamine Yamal: 9

The youngster was involved in the buildup to almost every Barcelona goal on the night and it is quite clear why he is one of the manager’s most trusted weapons in attack.

Earned the assist for Frenkie de Jong’s opener, played a key role in the buildup to Raphinha’s goal and again split the defence wide open in the sequence leading up to Fermin Lopez’s second goal on the night.

Raphinha: 9

The Brazilian continued his hot streak for the season, scoring again and improving his tally on the Pichichi standings.

Could have completed his brace late in the half but had his strike rattle against the crossbar and fall kindly for Fermin.

Ferran Torres: 9

The ex-Valencia star was a bright spark against his former club, playing in Robert Lewandowski’s place and creating a regular threat in the box.

Scored Barcelona’s second goal of the night off Balde’s assist but could well have had a hat-trick to his name.

Played a key role in the seventh goal as well, forcing the mistake that created the own goal.

Robert Lewandowski: 8

Came on as a substitute in the second half and scored almost instantly with great sharpness, showing that he still does have the lethal touch in him.
