Enzo Maresca has revealed he’s very happy with how his first three months in charge of Chelsea have gone, but in perhaps a warning to their rivals he admitted there are many things they can do better.

Maresca was appointed as Mauricio Pochettino’s replacement earlier this summer after guiding Leicester to the Championship title last season.

The Blues have certainly taken a risk and it’s a huge step up for Maresca as well with the Italian having very little management experience at senior level.

However, given Chelsea’s start to the season Maresca’s lack of experience hasn’t appeared to be an issue with the Blues putting in a series of impressive performances.

Chelsea have picked up 14 points from 21 and haven’t lost in the league since the opening game of the season, with Sunday’s draw against Nottingham Forest ending their winning streak of five games.

Maresca has impressed with how open and honest he is in the media, whilst at this early stage there’s a clear identity and a style of play forming, which was certainly lacking last season.

There’s still plenty to work on and Chelsea will likely get much better as a side as the season progresses and they face some tough tests after the international break against the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal.

Reflecting on his first three months in charge Maresca admitted that he was happy, but also acknowledged there’s a lot of things the Blues can do better.

“Yes [I am happy]. When we started the season, to think by the second international break you are fourth, the way the team are playing, the way the team are learning to play different kinds of games, for sure I am very happy,” he told Chelsea’s website.

“We have 14 points from seven games, it is important, but for me it is also important to see the way we got 14 points, it has been in different ways, in different types of games, home and away.

“Against a team like today (Sunday), who sit back and try to be aggressive, you have to use different weapons, but I think in general, we are very happy with where we are but for sure we can do many things better.”
