Dermot Gallagher reviews controversial decisions in the Premier League after each round of games, on behalf of Sky Sports.
The former top referee has now given his call on this incident in the Southampton v Newcastle match.
Dermot Gallagher looking at what happened during a big moment in this very eventful game at St Mary’s.
This particular ‘controversial’ moment happened when Newcastle United were trailing 1-0.
Dermot Gallagher talking to Sky Sports about this Southampton v Newcastle controversial incident:
Referee Sam Barrott originally signals for a corner after a challenge from Joe Aribo on Alexander Isak, but after three minutes and a visit to the monitor he awards a penalty.
“It was a brilliant intervention [by VAR].
“The referee is blocked off. There are too many players in the way.
“When you see it again, it’s a foul.
“There’s an angle they show the referee and he sees it once and gives the penalty.”
I couldn’t have put it better myself!
Some of the Southampton fans simply laughable with their VAR disgrace and conspiracy theories!
