There were some real positives from last Sunday afternoon’s performance against Spurs. Brentford bettered the visitors for both goal attempts (20 v 13) and shots inside the box (14 v 8).

Kevin Schade (£5.1m) and Bryan Mbeumo (£7.9m) both had four efforts, with the latter also crossing for an early Yoane Wissa (£6.3m) header that narrowly missed the target.

In the second half, Schade nodded on a Mikkel Damsgaard (£5.0m) cross towards Wissa but the forward was unable to keep it down and skimmed the crossbar from close range.

Despite not registering an attacking return in Gameweek 24 Mbeumo is still an excellent buy for FPL managers. The midfielder has registered 17 attacking returns for the season.

Of the midfielders in the game, only Mo Salah (£13.7m) and Cole Palmer (£11.2m) have returned more. Mbeumo has an excellent route to points with penalty responsibilities and he has also taken 56 corners and 20 free-kicks.

The Spotlight

In his 19-minute debut cameo against Tottenham, January signing Michael Kayode (£4.5m) had enough time to set up two efforts and one big chance. The highly-regarded youngster joined the west Londoners on loan in January with an option to buy.

An Italy Under-21 international, Kayode swiftly worked his way up to the Fiorentina first team by the start of 2023/24.

From there, he quickly became a regular, as La Viola reached the Europa Conference League final. Rave reviews ensured he was named Italian Golden Boy for 2024, which runs alongside the main European award.

However, the 20-year-old has struggled for game time this season because of Dodô’s successful recovery from a serious injury.

A fast dribbler who is good at tackles and decision-making, Kayode hasn’t produced many attacking returns.

One goal and five assists throughout 49 Fiorentina appearances won’t immediately appeal to FPL managers, but his generous £4.5m price could attract buyers for these upcoming fixtures.

Liverpool and Everton played twice in Double Gameweek 24, leading to several of the round’s top scorers being Merseyside-based, like Beto (£4.9m).

It also brought success to both Assistant Manager users and those choosing to play their Triple Captain chip on Salah’s outstanding 29 points.

Of the single-appearance players, it’s Chris Wood (£7.1m) leading the way after a hat-trick in Nottingham Forest’s stunning 7-0 win over Brighton. One behind him, on 16 points, is team-mate Morgan Gibbs-White (£6.5m).

Elsewhere, there was bad luck for the 310,000 managers that benched Daniel Muñoz (£4.8m) away at Manchester United. He delivered a clean sheet, an assist and 11 points.

In Demand

Thanks to Carabao Cup and FA Cup action, there’s been a two-week gap between FPL deadlines. Not only that, we now know that Aston Villa and Liverpool will play twice in Double Gameweek 25.

However, it is Bournemouth’s Justin Kluivert (£5.9m) who has the highest purchases ahead of Friday’s deadline (6.30pm GMT) despite only having a single fixture. Kluivert was also the most-bought player heading into Gameweek 23. In Gameweek 25, he faces Southampton.

Newcastle attacker Anthony Gordon (£7.6m) has the most sales, likely either for Kluivert or Villa's Morgan Rogers (£5.6m).

Captaincy

Like in Double Gameweek 24, the two matches of Salah should make him the default captain for many. The Egyptian remains far ahead of everyone else in many areas as he seeks to break his own all-time FPL record for final points.

Alternatively, the armband could be risked on a single Gameweek asset, such as a midfielder from in-form Bournemouth. Justin Kluivert takes penalties, Dango Ouattara (£5.1m) is playing up front and Antoine Semenyo (£5.7m) shoots a lot.
