Next season will be Theo Hernandez’s biggest in a while, considering the Frenchman needs to return to his best. However, will it be for AC Milan or another club?

The upcoming summer will say a lot about Milan, and if Theo is to renew his deal, it would, on the face of it, bode quite well. Reports have suggested that the left-back wants to continue with the Rossoneri, but there is a fear in the background.

Of course, this is the interest from Real Madrid, who have recently returned to the table. In fact, reports have even stated that he would be willing to move back to Los Blancos, even despite suggestions that he wants to continue in Red and Black.

So, Gazzetta dello Sport have taken a look at the situation. It starts with a recap, how at one point he was the captain, but now returned back to being a deputy, unable to drag his team forward as a captain should.

In the past month, though, we have seen glimpses of the ‘old Theo’, a devastating one, and this can be a sign for the future, with the narrative beginning to change and ideas starting to swirl.

At Casa Milan, the scales still point towards an exit, but only slightly, with the chances of an exit falling. So, if Real Madrid were to come forward, and there were no further signs of Theo’s revival or renewal hopes, then he could realistically jet back to Madrid.

In many ways though, the Diavolo have offered a branch of hope themselves, changing the system to further facilitate his own strengths, and so far, they are being repaid with him showing a glimmer of his old self. A return to the Rossoneri, in many ways.

So, it opens the door to a renewal which was previously locked shut. Of course, there is also the possibility that he renews and says goodbye anyway; we shall have to see. What is clear though, is that the ball is in Theo’s court.
