Germany head to Milan to take on Italy in the first leg of their UEFA Nations League quarter-final tonight.

Julian Nagelsmann’s side progressed to the last eight as League A Group 3 winners, with the Germans unbeaten across their six games.

It continues an encouraging period for Germany, who have lost just once in 15 games since the start of last year. That sole defeat came at Euro 2024, when the hosts lost in extra-time of their quarter-final with eventual winners Spain.

Since then, the likes of Manuel Neuer, Toni Kroos, Ilkay Gundogan and Thomas Muller have all retired from national duty.

Julian Nagelsmann is without Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Florian Wirtz, who is sidelined with an ankle injury. He joins Arsenal forward Kai Havertz and Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen as the headline absentees from the latest squad.

There are recalls for Leon Goretzka and Nadiem Amiri with the latter returning after a four-year absence. Amiri has been a key figure for surprise package Mainz in the Bundesliga this season.

Elsewhere, Inter Milan defender Yann Bisseck is in the squad for the first time. The 24-year-old could make his international debut at his home club stadium, with tonight’s tie taking place at the San Siro.
