Ruud Gullit expects AC Milan’s game against Feyenoord tonight to be a fun one, while he also shared his thoughts on the signing of Santiago Gimenez.

Gullit began his senior career with HFC Haarlem before moving to Feyenoord 1982, where he made 85 Eredivisie appearances, scoring 31 goals and establishing himself as one of the best young talents in the league.

He would then move to PSV Eindhoven in 1985 and two years later would sign for Milan for a then world record transfer fee of around €6.75m as a replacement for Ray Wilkins, sparking the beginning of Silvio Berlusconi’s era as he joined up with two fellow Dutchman.

As a reminder, an interview with Gullit, Frank Rijkaard and Marco van Basten was released yesterday in which they reminisced about their time at Milan, while the former analysed tonight’s game in an interview with Ad.nl (via MilanPress).

How are Milan doing in your eyes?

“I’ve seen them play a lot in the last few weeks. They’re certainly not having a top season, but lately they’ve found a way to get back on track. On Saturday against Empoli, without their best forwards Rafael Leão and Christian Pulisic, they didn’t play badly.

“They’re really a team under construction, somewhat comparable to Feyenoord in that sense. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is now taking care of the technical side, you can see that he’s trying to improve the team step by step. The purchase of Santiago Giménez is a clear example of that.”

What do you think of Gimenez?

“It’s the old law: players very often score against their previous club. It’s something intangible. Of course Giménez started well with a goal and an assist, in Italy they are very excited about him.”

How do you see the game going?

“Feyenoord definitely have a chance, especially at De Kuip. They have already shown it several times this season in Europe, in their stadium they can win against any opponent. That’s why they don’t understand Priske’s dismissal, which happened shortly before the match.

“If you don’t know the background, it’s obviously a crazy moment, and in Europe Priske had done very well. Milan have more quality and with Giménez, Pulisic and Leão they certainly have very good players up front, and then I think Tijjani Reijnders is the best of all.

“On Saturday against Empoli he played a little less, but that boy is doing really well. I’ll have fun tonight.”
