Harsh Maresca demands “10 to 15 goals” from player on his best run of form at Chelsea

Enzo Maresca is taking his press conference ahead of Chelsea’s game in the Conference League against Djurgarden tomorrow night, but as you’d expect, the majority questions are much more general, given that tie is pretty much wrapped up.
The talk of the town after the win over Liverpool at the weekend has been the Blues’ midfield – the return of the excellent Romeo Lavia, the way that changes Moises Caicedo’s role and Enzo Fernandez’s recent great form in front of goal.
Maresca was asked a little about how he profiled each of the players at his disposal and what he made of their form this season:
“Moi[ses Caicedo] is a No. 6 in the way he is playing since we started. He is playing as a full-back and a holding midfielder [at the same time]. Enzo we want more goals and assists. He has improved a lot and I think he can be better. He can score between 10 and 15 each season. Romeo is a No. 6 like Moi. With all the players fit the team is a better team. Unfortunately some have been injured for long time.”

It’s interesting to hear Maresca still demanding more from Enzo. His recent run of form has been his best at Chelsea – certainly in front of goals – but there’s still more to come.
I’s true that with Lavia and Caicedo playing behind him, the Argentine is playing really far forward, and if he was doing that all season there’s no reason he couldn’t score 10 to 15 goals, as Maresca suggests.
The problem is that all of this excitement depends on Lavia staying fit. And sadly, after two seasons of struggles in a row, we will need to see a few solid months strung together before we get too excited.
