Arsenal exited the FA Cup in the third round following a penalty shoot-out defeat to Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners had plenty of attempts on goal in the game, but they were denied a winner in regulation time by the Red Devils.

United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir was obviously exceptional with six saves. He also denied Kai Havertz in the shoot-out at the end.

However, Arsenal should have still won the game. Martin Odegaard failed to convert a penalty. Havertz missed two glorious opportunities to score.

Declan Rice came close on three separate occasions. Bayindir made two sublime stops while Matthijs de Ligt blocked a shot which was on target.

Following the game, manager Mikel Arteta acknowledged that it is not looking good for Gabriel Jesus, who picked up a serious knee injury in the opening half.

The Spaniard did not provide any update on Jurrien Timber, but journalist Simon Collings revealed he was limping and holding his hamstring before his substitution.

The 23-year-old right-back signalled to the bench that he wanted to come off. It remains to be seen whether he will be fit for the north London derby midweek.

Collings posted on X: “Timber limping and holding his hamstring – and signalled to bench he needs to come off. Hopefully a precaution.”

Arsenal are already without right-backs Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu with injuries. If Timber is unavailable, midfielder Thomas Partey may have to slot in the position.

Hopefully, his substitution was only a precaution. The Gunners need to overcome their disappointment yesterday by returning to winning ways against Spurs in the league.

Arsenal are six points behind table-toppers Liverpool, who have a game in hand. The Gunners must win at the Emirates on Wednesday or their title pursuit could be over.
