Reports have long been widespread in the media that Lewandowski’s Barcelona contract features a clause which states that, in the case of the 36-year-old playing in a specific number of games, his deal will automatically be renewed through 2026.

According to Sport, however, this is not the case.

Instead, as part of the contract originally signed by the former Bayern Munich man upon his arrival in Catalunya’s capital, Lewandowski agreed terms through the summer of 2026.

A clause does exist in this deal, but as much surrounds a potential termination, rather than extension.

As per Sport:

‘The text signed by both parties reads exactly as follows: “The two parties agree that, in the event that the participation (“matches played”) of the PLAYER during the third season (2024/25) is less than 55% of the official matches, FC BARCELONA will have the right to terminate this employment contract early.”

With Lewandowski continuing to play a leading role for Hansi Flick’s Blaugrana, however, the likelihood of this clause actually coming into play is slim to none.
