Donnarumma showed what he was capable of less than four minutes in, polling out an instinctive, point-blank save to stop Gabriel Martinelli’s volley from six yards out after a troubling long-throw in from Thomas Partey.
The Italy no.1 showed his dominance in the area by coming out to punch clear a Declan Rice corner just a few minutes later, to loud cheers from the PSG supporters in the stands behind him.
In the following play, Donnarumma provided arguably his best save of the match, preventing Martin Odegaard’s strike from the edge of the area from hitting the bottom corner through a congested penalty area. He saw it so late.
There were concerns immediately afterwards, as the former Milan stopper remained on the floor and needed to be seen to by the medical staff. Reserve stopper Matvei Safonov was briefly sent out to warm up, but Donnarumma eventually got back on his feet and was able to continue.
