The Nico Gonzalez transfer deal from FC Porto to Manchester City has taken a confusing turn for Barcelona.
Initially, the club was set to receive 40% of the profit from his transfer, which was expected to amount to €20.64 million. This figure was based on Manchester City triggering his €60 million release clause.
However, Porto, the club that had previously bought half of the capital gains on Nico’s transfer rights, announced a significant change in the deal.
Instead of the expected €20.64 million, Barcelona will now receive just over €13 million. This is because, according to Mundo Deportivo, Porto had already purchased 50% of the profit for €3 million.
Porto made this adjustment public with an official statement. They confirmed that they had exercised an option to buy 20% of the capital gains from Barcelona for €3 million, which means Barcelona’s share has been reduced to just 20%.

Additionally, Porto cancelled Barcelona’s buy-back option on Nico, which was valued at €30 million and could have been exercised until June 30, 2025.
Breaking it down, Barcelona will now receive 20% of the capital gains from Manchester City’s €60 million transfer fee, which amounts to €10.32 million.
The remaining €3 million comes from the deal where Porto purchased half of Barcelona’s original share of the capital gains. So, in total, Barcelona will earn €13.32 million from Nico’s transfer to Manchester City.
When you add the €8.5 million that Porto paid Barcelona for Nico back in the summer of 2023, the total amount Barcelona will receive from the two transfers comes to €21.82 million.
This is the final sum that will go into Barcelona’s coffers following the complicated journey of Nico Gonzalez’s transfers.
