Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez has been one of the big injury doubts ahead of his team’s Champions league semifinal second leg against Barcelona.

Martinez had started in last week’s first leg clash in Barcelona. However, he was only able to play out the first half.

The Argentine had indicated some discomfort in his left thigh throughout the first half. And then particularly towards halftime, it was evident he was struggling.

Therefore, Martinez did not come on for the second half. Mehdi Taremi replaced the 27-year-old as a substitute.

Missing their captain would come as a huge blow for Inter Milan.

Therefore, the Nerazzurri have been waiting anxiously to see the progress of Martinez’s recovery.

However, according to the Gazzetta, things have moved along very positively as far as the Inter captain’s condition.

Martinez had missed one training session for Inter. He was out of Friday’s session, in preparation for the weekend’s Serie A match against Hellas Verona.

However, Martinez is back in training. He is doing everything he can to be ready for tomorrow’s all-important Champions League semifinal second leg.

Medical tests confirmed that Martinez had not suffered a serious muscle injury. Rather, he had sustained an “elongation” to the flexor muscles in his left thigh.

Therefore, the 27-year-old should be able to grit his teeth for tomorrow’s match.

Reports yesterday suggested that Martinez would at the very least be able to be on the bench tomorrow.

However, the news is even more positive today.

According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, Martinez is targeting a place in the starting eleven for tomorrow’s match.
